So there seems to be this trend, especially in the internet marketing world that you have to have a blog of some description and whilst I am a blogger and I love blogging as my platform, it doesn’t mean that it is right for everyone.  That been said if you are determined to be a blogger, there are a few obvious questions you should really ask yourself before you commit yourself.

If you answer them and you fear you have fallen down the wrong rabbit hole, do not fear perhaps you are supposed to be a podcaster of video superstar, or something else all together.   so what are these stupid questions I hear you ask?  I thought you’d never ask.  Let’s GO!

Stupid Question

Stupid Question

Do you like People?

Well do you?  Blogging really is about connecting and building relationships with other people.  That could be with the end goal of making a sale or selling your services and products, but you will never be able to do that really well unless your readers know like and trust you.  If you are going to blog, it is really important that you are going to take the time to respond to comments, reach out and connect with people on social networks and visit them on their blogs if they have them.    I do believe you have to genuinely like people and making new connections to have a successful blog.

Are you a writer?

Notice that I didn’t say a good writer.   Writing like anything takes time to develop.  My English teacher once told me my writing was horse manure, thank you very much Mr Binns.  My mum got very cross and marched up to the school and I thought Mr Binns might not survive the afternoon, but it turns out my Mum isn’t a teacher killer after all.  I digress, however, I could have taken Mr Binn’s words at the age of 11 and never put my heart into writing anything meaningful again.

Thankfully I learnt not to listen to all the adults all the time and to listen to that voice inside me instead.  I am glad that I did, I am not sure I could live without words.  However, the point I am trying to make is this.  Some people are writers and some people are not.  Some people think they arent writers when in fact they are and others might have been told they aren’t writers by Mr Binn’s only to find out, writing is more than a calling in life!

But seriously if writing isn’t your thing, it’s OK, you just need to find a different media platform to get your messages out there.

Do you have time?

We are all busy, marketing, creating, connecting and blogging and let’s face it, it can take time in the beginning.  The more you do it, the faster you will become and the better you will get at pulling it all together and syndicating and researching keywords etc.  But you are going to need some time if you are going to make a good job of you blog.  Once you have figured out your voice you could outsource your blogging, but until then you best schedule it in your diary.
