Well hello there….
Nice of you to stop by, you will have to excuse my ignorance. You see I have no idea who you are or where you came from, or even the words you typed in Google to catapult you here. You see the thing is Google doesn’t want me to know what you were thinking just a few moments ago.
We could speculate and make up some conspiracy theory of sorts to justify what’s going on in Google land this time, but why don’t I just update you on what the heck has been going on so you can go and do some research on what the devil you’re going to do next.
So what’s up with Google Beth?
It seems the day that SEOers thought would never happen has actually happened. Call it Armageddon (love that film) call it what you like…there is no more Keyword data available to us to help us be sophisticated with building our blog and understanding the minds of our visitors and customers.
What a nightmare….
If you don’t believe me go check the back office of you Google Analytics….
So Google has quietly moved to encrypting search behaviour and pasting ‘Not Provided’ all over Google analytics, except for Adword Clicks?
Backtrack to October 2011. Google introduced encrypted searches for anyone logged into Google. They stated it was on privacy grounds. Fast forward to 2013 and we could come up with a conspiracy theory that it’s to stop Spying (move over James Bond) or to increase Google’s Ad’s income?
Who knows?… I’m going to go with the theory that it has all been a bad dream and I will shortly wake up on a fluffy cloud with Tom Hardy nom…
Ok so what can I do now Google has hidden the good stuff?
Don’t worry all is not lost, I’ve done some digging and I’ve found you some alternative approaches to help you still have some valuable info to work with and to make your blog the best it can be. Checkout this great article from hittail.

But I’m not a techy what should I do?
Well you could do nothing. My honest opinion is to not worry too much. Google has a habit of doing what it likes, when it likes, and without warning. We do know Google likes quality, congruent content; that provides value to its customers i.e. the people looking for answers in the search engines.
We also know that Google’s most recent algorithm change; known as ‘Hummingbird’ (I was convinced it was going to be ‘Goldfish!’) is moving away from ‘results’ on actually searched terms to ‘solutions’. Throw in some long term keywords that people, might actually use when searching on Google, like “How to…”, or “How Can I…” and you won’t go too far wrong.
So if you are creating good content that answers you customer needs, you are in my humble opinion doing it right.
After all, popularity isn’t just SEO, it is your whole package, your personality, your positioning in the market, you frequency, your likeability, your marketing, your copy EVERYTHING.
So word of advice….
GO DO YOUR THING!
