So I haven’t said NOT since 1996, but there is a time and a place for everything and I thought 2013 was as good as any to bring out the ole teenage in me. Remember being an annoying teenager, annoying everyone everywhere with your wicked taste in fashion or your noise banging music. Or perhaps it was using words that were actually the opposite of what you actually ment and driving your parents to total despair Not to mention the time you wouldn’t come out of your bedroom for a whole week when you split up from Angus J McEwan.
Anyway, I am way off the mark about what I want to discuss to day, apart from the bit about being annoying.
There is good and bad in everything and everyone. There are good doctors and bad doctors, good teachers and bad teachers and there are certainly good bloggers and bad bloggers. But which one are you? Let’s have a look at some of the things you can do to really annoy the heck out of your friends and followers, your potential customers and more!
Messy Blog Disease?
Thankfully messy blog disease isn’t contagious, but it can leave a sour taste in your mouth if you find one on your travels. There is nothing worse than a blog with randomly placed pictures, bright colours, no clearly defined categories and more fonts and font sizes that you can shake your mouse at. Remember your blog is like your home, it says a lot about how you conduct your business and it can make or break whether someone would want to: work with you, buy from you or request your services.
Blog Mixed Messages
This is something that a lot of bloggers are bad at. Not on purpose and not because they don’t respect their friends and followers but because they haven’t properly figured out their niche. Its OK it happens to the best of us. We start out on one blogging journey passionate about something, only to find something new and shiny that we want to get passionate about. What happens is the people who followed you in the beginning are now completely confused as to why you are taking about something else all of a sudden?…SIGH.
I’m allowed to say rubbish I’m British after all. How does your blog read? If you have taken the time to write your blog post, be sure to go over it with a fine tooth comb and fish out the bad bits. If your blog reads wrong, people wont understand what you are talking about. Remember we want to make your reader’s experience, as enjoyable as possible. Check for spelling and grammar mistakes and then check again. We all make mistakes, but not even trying with show a mile off.
OK OK, i’m guilty, I’ve used pop-ups. We all want to build a list after all, right? But pop-ups have this annoying habit of well…. how should I put it…..POPPING UP! If you are using a pop-up… .and understand me, I am not totally against them but just think about your reader. Think about what you would feel like if you were reading this beautifully crafted post about rabbits and kittens and then this Pop-up sneaks up on you and smacks you in the face. Would you be happy?… Use Pop-ups wisely. Are they congruent to your blog or blog post? Do they actually offer value? Could you get leads some other way? Could you have them come up when people leave your blog rather when they just arrive?
There are a lot more annoying blogger crimes. I could go on and on, but another pet hate is blog posts that go on for ever and a day so I wont 🙂 What would it take for you to be the WORST blogger you could possibly be? Leave your ideas below.
